Flat springs are springs, as their name suggests manufactured from flat sectional material, these store and release energy when deflected by an external bending load.
Flat springs are often chosen over a helical spring due to the space and design characteristics. Some examples of flat springs include electrical contacts, leaf springs, curved flat springs, spring clips, disk springs, constant force springs, clamping springs and clock springs.
There are endless possibilities with regards to the design of flat springs. These parts will often need tooling designed specifically for the part along with CAD drawings for the laser cutting and other operations.
JB Springs and CGR are pushing the boundaries of engineering capabilities while implementing a wide range of manufacturing methods from traditional presses to the latest developments in the industry to produce springs that fit our customers needs.
Flat Spring Parameters
The following parameters are important in establishing the correct design of flat springs:
The dimensions of where the spring works in
The loads/forces required and the deflection at which they are required
The maximum working deflection required
The frequency of operation
The operating environment. This will determine the choice of material and/or the choice of any finish for corrosion protection
How and where the spring is to be fitted
