The Long and Winding Spring
John Binns regularly manufactures very peculiar springs. A recent example of this was in the form of a tight diameter, eighteen metre long spring made from 8mm wire, which stretched most of the length of the shop floor.

Among the many things John Binns appreciates is a dedicated and professional approach. These qualities have been shown by John Binns’ apprentice spring maker Ryan Hoggarth. Ryan is ranked 3rd in the UK and 9th in the world for youth darts and has recently moved up to senior tournaments including the World Trophy Competition. To show our support John Binns has sponsored him. Good luck Ryan.
John Binns has recently invested in a 3D Production system printer, similar to a 3D printer but capable of producing higher quality real parts and is able to build them in production grade material such as PC-ABS and Ultem. This new venture has led John Binns to explore further avenues within the business, from advanced prototyping, manufacturing tools and fixtures through to medical and architectural modelling. Here at John Binns we have already used the 3D Production System to manufacture [...]
One of the new apprentice springmakers at John Binns, Tom Wright, made a real impression on the company’s trip to the falconry centre at Coniston Hotel. He and “Gromit” the harris hawk were inseparable. Well, at least until the hawk had finished eating the food he was holding.

This is due to be followed up by a range of videos from the shop floor, giving an insight to the workings of the factory. These videos will be on our website and our YouTube channel.
Andy Murray may have ended Great Britain’s 77 year wait for a Wimbledon champion but at the recent John Binns’ Sports Day a far more significant sporting drought was ended. After 35 years at the firm, Ian Smith finally got his hands on the John Binns’ Springtime Trophy. Admittedly, this has always previously been a golfing trophy and Smithy remains in the “good walk spoiled” camp. However, this year the competition was changed to archery and Smithy seized the crown with an [...]
Over the month of November, 8 members from the John Binns team put down there razors for the month to help raise funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer and mental health. Over the month the team managed to raise £700 and collate a selection of photographs to be treasured for all time. The team page is still open if you wish to view it. http://uk.movember.com/team/1330661
Local sound technician, Rory McCutcheon of RM Audio, has recorded the sounds produced by the machines in the John Binns’ factory. Using no other sounds or instruments he has produced a unique version of Jingle Bells. We hope you all have a great Christmas and very best wishes for 2014.
With only a few days left of Movember, the team at John Binns will soon be able to reach for their razors and resume their standing as the best looking springmakers in Skipton, if not the whole of North Yorkshire. The tension is palpable. (See http://uk.movember.com/team/1330661)
The moustachioed team from John Binns is now half way through the month of Movember. Rumours of impromptu performances of YMCA breaking out on the shop floor have been denied. For more details see http://uk.movember.com/team/1330661
