JB Springs was delighted to sponsor Skipton Girls’ High School (SGHS) Robotics Team, who were representing the Yorkshire and Humberside region in last month’s national robotics finals in Bristol.

The SGHS Robotics Team won the right to represent Yorkshire and Humber at the UK finals after winning the regional round of the First Lego League; a global competition with over 250,000 9-16 year olds competing to solve real-world problems with LEGO robots.

Supported by the IET (Institute of Technology and Engineering), the national finals were held at Bristol’s University of the West of England (UWE) on Saturday 24th February as 400 young people battled it out with the theme of ‘Animal Allies’.

Although advanced robotics and computer programming skills are expected to impress judges, excellent team work and communication skills are also the name of the game and the icing on the cake for a generation it is hoped will become the UK’s next scientists and engineers.

Although they didn’t win and sadly are not going to the International Finals in the USA, the girls from SGHS performed exceptionally well and received some very positive feedback from the judges.

The students were all awarded a Gold Award in the Industrial Cadets program which will be a fabulous addition to their CVs the feedback from their teachers is that they had a fantastic experience and are highly motivated for next year’s competition!
