Celebrating our Apprentices – National Apprenticeship Week
Last week saw the 14th annual National Apprenticeship Week, the theme of which was ‘Building the Future’. National Apprenticeship Week is an annual week-long celebration and recognition of apprentices and apprenticeships across the country.
Our Apprentices
JB Springs has been in the privileged position to provide placements for many local apprentices over the years. It is always incredibly rewarding to see them go on to achieve impressive feats.
Back in 2016, we welcomed two apprentices – Joe Wright and Jake Smith. In October of last year, they celebrated their graduation with Engineering Awards Ltd Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Diploma qualifications and National Vocational Qualifications in Mechanical Engineering. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to play a part in their education and subsequent qualifications.

In 2015, Tom Wright (Joe’s brother) won his college’s Mechanical Engineering Learner of the Year award during his apprenticeship, due to his successful training as a member of the John Binns team. He also holds an EAL Level 3 NVQ Extended diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (springmaking) and Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture.
Tom started with us in 2013 along with Tom Cox. Tom Cox is highly qualified, holding: Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture, EAL Level 3 NVQ Extended diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (springmaking), Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations, and HND Level 5 Mechanical Engineering qualification – which develops career skills through employment.
Both Toms have gained extensive experience as key JB Springs members, and now manage key sections of production.

More recently, in September of 2019, our apprentices George Carmen and Scott Tennant completed their Level 2 Diploma Foundations in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. As well as his diploma, Scott was voted by his colleagues as the winner of The Ian Smith Award for positive contribution – so-named in memory of our late employee Ian Smith, who sadly passed away in August of 2019, which was his 40th year with the company.

It is a real honour to see so many success stories in the apprentices we take on. We thought it only right to use this event to recognise and celebrate their skills and contributions to JB Springs!
